ABOUT GSC

What is the Graduate Student Council (GSC)?

The mission of the Graduate Student Council (GSC) is to work in cooperation with Texas A&M University administration, faculty, and other relevant entities to insure that the needs of graduate students are understood and considered when campus policies concerning academic excellence, tuition and finance, and research are made.

The GSC, serving as the graduate student government at Texas A&M University, exists to share and discuss information important to all Texas A&M University graduate and professional students and to advocate for their interests in dealing with the University, its constituents, and all other appropriate entities.

Every department and recognized non-departmental organization is entitled to three representatives, with only one representative serving as the voting delegate.  Our members are expected to attend biweekly meetings held on the first and third Tuesday of each month.  Meetings are open to all interested parties.  Voting, however, is limited to recognized and eligible delegates.

Our Goals

The GSC strives to represent all graduate and professional students at Texas A&M University and to:

  1. Identify, share, and discuss issues pertinent to graduate and professional students in order to maintain academic freedom, to improve the quality of instruction, to develop and strengthen the University's recruitment and retention programs, to encourage training, fair compensation and benefits, and to ensure that quality student services are made available.

  1. Be recognized as representing a unique population within the University System.

  1. Establish open and effective communications with the University and its constituents.

  1. Establish open and effective communications within the graduate and professional student body on issues that affect all areas of the graduate student population.

  1. Serve as a venue for graduate and professional students at Texas A&M by providing opportunities for social interaction and service to the local community.
