A New Town........
A New School......
New Procedures.....
So many questions, who to ask?
A fellow grad student - that's who....
Goals
We hope that through participation in the Grad Mentoring Program current students will increase their knowledge about resources available at Texas A&M and new students will feel more comfortable navigating Texas A&M. We also hope that students will feel that they have connected with other graduate students at Texas A&M.
Become a Mentee
If you are a new graduate student and would like to have a fellow student to help with your transition to Texas A&M sign up for a mentor. Mentee registration is only available to new graduate students who started their degree program in Spring, Summer or Fall 2009.
Become a mentor
What does a Mentor Do?
They help a new graduate student navigate the system here at A&M
Mentors would meet or keep in contact with their mentees on at least a monthly basis to be there to answer questions and help them understand the "graduate process" of Texas A&M.
You would be the person they can turn to when they don't know the answer to a question, or just need someone to listen. However, we don't expect that you would have all the answers but we hope to provide you with the resources so you would be able to point someone in the right direction.
To become a mentor:
- Fill out the online mentor application
- Attend ONE MANDATORY 3-hour dinner/training session (during Summer 2009)
- Keep up to date with Office of Graduate Studies information and deadline dates
- Join a listserv with other mentors so you could post questions that you get asked and do not know the answers to
As a mentor we will expect:
- One hour a month minimum contact with your mentees - some sort of group meeting/meal time
- Maintain email contact with the mentees just to see how they are doing
Mentor Training Dates* (Summer 2009)
Training Session I: July 9 (Cain Hall B-139, 5:30pm)
Training Session II: July 15 (Location and Time TBD)
*Mentors are only expected to attend ONE training session.
